MARSHALL, MICHIGAN – Marshall Community Credit Union (MCCU) is pleased to announce the hiring of two Student Tellers for the 2023-24 school year, Koby Brown and Carter Casarez.

Koby and Carter are seniors at Marshall High School (MHS) and joined MCCU in July to begin training for their dual roles as Student Teller at the MHS CU in School branch, and as Tellers at MCCU’s Marshall branch. As Student Tellers, Koby and Carter will perform transactions at the school branch and provide financial learning opportunities for their peers and MHS staff members. They will also work in the branch after school, and on Saturdays as their schedules allow.

In conjunction with their Student Teller responsibilities, Koby and Carter will take an independent study class with MHS teacher, Alayna Hager, and MCCU’s Financial Education Coordinator, Laura Van Dyke. “Through the independent study, Koby and Carter will deepen their knowledge in areas of credit union operations, career path exploration, and have crucial conversations about personal finance and how it weaves into their overall wellness as an individual,” says Laura. “We hope the students carry the lessons they learn in our program through their adult life and continue to serve as a positive resource for those around them.”

Through their independent study, both students will gain job experience and a wealth of financial education, including learning to budget, the importance of good credit, and how to use a credit card wisely.

Marshall High School’s CU in School branch will open on Friday, September 8. The branch will be open on Fridays during lunch through Friday, May 17. MCCU has partnered with Marshall Public Schools since 2001 to bring financial education to students and staff members through its CU in School program.
